Divorced/Separated Parent Policies:
When working with children and families, we have strict policies in place to ensure transparency, communication, and collaboration. These policies have been developed over years of practice to ensure we can provide the highest care for your family in alignment with applicable laws and our ethical codes.
Parent involvement: No divorced parent wants to feel like their child’s therapist is on the other parent’s side! We believe it is essential for both parents to be involved in therapy for the benefit of the child, even if the relationship is strained. Both parents will be CC’ed on all emails to ensure transparency and reduce triangulation.
Forensic/court involvement: Colorado law and our ethical codes prohibit therapists from providing opinions on custody or parenting time. We will deny any requests to speak with attorneys, Child and Family Investigators (CFIs), Parental Responsibility Evaluators (PREs), or be involved in other forensic matters. Forensic involvement between therapists and the court system has been shown to have a high risk of damaging the therapeutic relationship. Therapy is for the sole purpose of supporting your family in healing relationships. Family members should be able to speak openly about the impact of the divorce without worrying that what they say will end up in court.
Cancellation/No-Show Policy:
If you cancel your appointment within 48 hours of the scheduled time, fail to show up at the appointment without notice (“no-show”), excluding emergency situations, or appear more than 15 minutes past the scheduled start time of your session, your session will be considered cancelled, and you will be charged for the full amount of the session. We will not begin a session if you are more than 15 minutes late. Please be aware that most insurance companies will not provide reimbursement for cancellation fees, and you will be personally responsible for the payment of any such fees. Medicaid patients are not billed for missed sessions.
If we do not hear from you for 72 hours after a “no-show,” or if you have a total of two “no-shows” (not necessarily consecutively), your therapy will be considered terminated, your file will be closed, and we will open your time slot. If you want to resume therapy after termination, please discuss this with us.
External Paperwork Policy:
Greenlake Psychology does not complete Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), Emotional Support Animal (ESA), or Disability paperwork under any circumstances.
Communication Policy:
Greenlake Psychology provides once-weekly therapy services by appointment only. We do not generally communicate about therapeutic issues in between sessions and ask you to reserve these discussions for your session time. We do not provide emergency services. If we believe you would be better served by a more intensive therapy program, we will provide referrals.
Payment for Sessions with Multiple Attendees/Family Members
Families will choose one family member to serve as the primary account holder. This person is the “point person” for payment. In order to maintain our focus on our clinical work, we ask that families (including divorced parents) sort out payment on their end. We do not split session fees or alternate payments between divorced parents. If you are planning to submit a superbill for potential insurance reimbursement, we suggest that the point person for payment be the person who will be submitting receipts to their insurance company.
On-site policy:
Parents are required to stay on-site during their child’s therapy or assessment session.
